Star Wars Lightsaber Katana

What can be better than combining the awesome Katana with the magnificence of the lightsaber? In this video the guys at Man at Arms create just that and I am very curious to hear how you like it?

Is this the ultimate fantasy weapon or just a stupid waste of time? Should the design be different and what are your best ideas on how to improve the design?

Polishing a Katana the right way
Good start, now lets move forward

The initial response for Ekatana has been really good and even though there are not a lot of products here yet, so now it’s time to move forward and improve the site and it’s content.

To build a website in just 16 days on your spare-time  is not an easy task, especially when you don’t have a plan for it other than a vision and tons of motivation. It works, but doing things like that make for some rough edges here and there. It also means you do some compromises here and there because you are working with ready made solutions.

GOING LIVE WITH A 10% DISCOUNT!

And only 16 days later since I decided to move forward with this project I am now ready to open the doors to the public. All is ready and although we currently only have a few swords up, I feel like it’s time we get this sown on the road!

It’s been one hell of a journey trying to get all the pieces together, writing all the texts, setting up plugins and modifying the design to my liking, but it’s here now. I still have tons of things to do like fixing bugs and adding hundreds of new swords and other items, but I am in no hurry. Ekatana.se is here to stay and I know that this project is not a sprint, but a marathon.

In order to celebrate the Go Live event I am giving you the opportunity to use a very nice 10% discount voucher. This will reduce the price of any product, even discounted ones, with 10%, but it will not effect shipping. To use it, just enter “GoingLive” in the coupons field in the cart and it will automatically do the calculations for you.

I hope you will enjoy this website and if you want some nice offers down the road, be sure to register as a member and you will get a newsletter with promotions and news a couple of times each year.

Adding Encyclopedia to Ekatana

For a lot of people the many Japanese terms related to the different parts and techniques surrounding Japanese swords such as Katanas and Iaito can be very confusing. In order to help with that I have added an encyclopedia functionality to the website.

How To: Disassemble a Katana
Secrets of the Samurai Sword katana

English archers had their longbows, Old West sheriffs had their six-guns, but samurai warriors had the most fearsome weapon of all: the razor-sharp, unsurpassed technology of the katana, or samurai sword. In this program, NOVA probes the centuries-old secrets that went into forging what many consider the perfect blade.

Building a forum

One of the things I wanted to do for Ekatana was to build a nice community into it. To do that I added Buddypress and BBPress, which are a pain in the behind to get to actually do what you want them to do.

BBPress is an old and probably the only forum that actually works with WordPress. As such you would think that it would have plenty of development and be pretty nice out of the box, and you would be wrong. BBPress in it’s default state is a miserable piece of junk that look terrible and have almost no functionality what so ever.
